French artist Jules Moriet arrives at a remote sanatorium on the Romanian coast. He is haunted by oppressive memories that prevent him from finishing his paintings. In his conversations with the local inhabitants, he encounters both understanding and misunderstanding, hostility and friendship, and gains insight into himself. Until his lies catch up with him once more…
